It is possible to play Gran Turismo 5 Prologue without applying the latest update, but in this case, you will not be able to utilize any of its online services.

Even for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Spec III which contains the latest updates up to October 3, 2008, if there is an additional online update thereafter, you must update to the latest version or all online services will be disabled.
